The British magazine Autocar has launched the rumour that Aston Martin could be bought by Mercedes, according to sources in Germany.

First of all, the Mercedes McLaren partnership will be ending next year, when the famous Mercedes SLR McLaren will be taken out of production, so the German builder will lose one of its supercars.

Secondly, the actual owner of Aston Martin, Kuwait Investment Dar, is also a stock holder at Daimler AG, the company which owns Mercedes. Thus, a connection between Mercedes and Aston Martin would be a good thing even at the level of a technical partnership.

Last but not least, the next generation of the mercedes SL will have an aluminum body, which might also be used on a Aston Martin model. What is more, Aston Martin could be and exclusive brand, which, using the know-how and the capital from Mercedes, might become once again a profitable business.
