BMW Sporty Prototype
This time a year is usually when manufacturers start revealing some of their future projects. Predominantly though, this will be the likes of concept cars, that are likely to make it into production. That does not seem to be the case with BMW, as they are slowing drip feeding car enthusiasts with information and pictures relating to their latest sports car prototype.
BMW has already created a website using reverse psychology, which is called Don’t Blog About This. This website is essentially dedicated to the information and updates that surround the vehicle and is only likely to increase in popularity over the coming months.
Some spy shots have already been released and it is quite obvious that the vehicle is using the rear end of the current 6-series, giving an extremely sporty, yet aggressive look. It has also taken some features from the Vision EfficientDynamics concept car, which had its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. It will be using the front end of this vehicle.
All enthusiasts can really go on is the pictures that are slowly being circulated. Essentially it is a vehicle that will be based on the 6 series, and little more than that has been explained.
There are actually some spy videos circulating the web which suggest that it will be using an electric motor. What enthusiasts can assume from this is that it uses a similar setup to the concept car, which including a 1.5 L diesel, which was accompanied by a 60kW electric motor. This would obviously make it be a silent runner, which is what most of the videos suggest.
The above concept of using a small engine and then an electric motor is something that BMW do not expect to introduce until 2012. That being said, they are already developing a range of vehicles that are to be released sooner, which would be perfect candidates.
With the dedicated website and the amount of spy shots and footage circulating the web, there is no doubt that BMW have plans for this vehicle. The chances are they are hoping to create a lot of hype around the vehicle before its official concept debut, which is not likely to be for at least another year.
