2011 Plymouth Road Runner Concept
If you love the 2010 Dodge Challenger, you’re going to love this concept of the old Plymouth Road Runner. Who is the artist of this new famous concept you might ask? The artist is Michael Leonhard, a car designer from Vienna Austria. The man is definitely talented that’s for sure. The rumor going around the web is this rendering could be the new Plymouth Road Runner for 2011. I’m skeptic to say the least, especially since Chrysler just filed bankruptcy. I don’t think the car company can afford to make another muscle car, I think Chrysler is concentrating all its energy in making an electric car or hydrogen car instead. If the muscle car does come out though, I’m definitely for it, I would love to see another retro muscle car out on the road. Every time I see a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro or a 2010 Dodge Challenger, my head spins and my eyes just gawk in amazement.
My favorite part of the Plymouth Road Runner concept is the front, the glowing halogen head lights just look so cool and add a unique look to its bulky front end. The wheels are decent looking, need a little work. And the back end just screams “bite my dust!” If you check out the car from the side picture, it really brings the muscle car together. All in all, I think Michael Leonhard did a fine job creating this futuristic Plymouth Road Runner. It would be great to see it in real life and one day get passed by it out on the road.

Not bad at all, If chrysler had vision and balls the past 25 years, they would never be in bankruptcy today.
When you abandon your market/me and you, we all lose. The style is good, needs some tweaking to give it more character. The pillar stripes are my favorite.’71/’72. If they had any balls, they would make it a hybrid with 140mph muscle. I’m sure it could be done. They could also make a GTX version with a luxo package…
How stupid could those execs bee. It would really kick the competitions in the butt.

Speaking as the owner of a plum crazy 71 ,I must say this concept should have been built before the challenger concept car was. O.K. i am a little partial but every single person has heard of a roadrunner. And it’s BEEP BEEP horn. Most have only imagined owning a nice one. The reputation alone would’ve boosted sales. This drawing of a 72 is spot on.It’s too bad the PLYMOUTH line nas been shut down. This should’ve been the one built.

Ideas such as this would most likely will drive them OUT of bankruptcy! You would absolutely have to return to the roots and appeal to the youth market with stripped/ lite body, big or powerful engine, wild paint and tape treatment, slats , spoiler and gimmicks. Remember my horn said “The voice of the Roadrunner ! Air Grabber, Pistol grip shifter but most important of all, no mature frills and lite -LOW COST!!! You can bring back the Plymouth nameplate along with the Roadrunner just for this special car ! Nostalgia galore !One of the Mopar mags did a rendering not long ago of a concept of a Superbee based on a stripped cop Charger ,rubber floor mat etc.

This is a great design. Really, but…. The real Roadunner that was the best of the best in the muscle car branch(excuse my poor english) is the `68-`69 and maybe the `70 Roadrunner. Period. I shourely would like to see the modern interpretation of that design. And about that hybrid muscle car idea hmmm… trendy but, personally, it would be a heresy. You can`t expect a muscle car to be economic and I really wouldn`t be excited by the idea of `electric burnout`…. =)) No ofense there, Merk.

While not a bad concept, I don’t really care for this design. The original Road Runner was a strip-down, no frills/all thrills kind of a car. This one is more of a beauty queen and too modern. The new Dodge Challenger came out perfect- just the right amount of retro and futuristic to form a perfectly designed car. In matter of fact, I would just as well like to see Chrysler offer a “Road Runner” package for the Challenger, an all muscle, plain-jane, all out balls-to-the-walls kind of car a proper MOPAR should be.

Wow! Honestly, I was gonna purchase a Challenger, BUT I sooooo wanna wait for the Road Runner! My Dad had one when he was young…it was beautiful… I wanna carry out the family legacy. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS CAR! I’m in love!

Very nice concept car. I owned a 72 Roadrunner for about 25 years. I really like what the artist has done. It’s has a very close feeling to the roadrunner that I knew. I would add some of the rare options like front spoilers and gull wings on the trunk to some of the schemes. There were also a few other striping schemes, like wide hood stripes that drape over the fenders, a pair of stripes on the trunk lid, etc. louvers on the rear window. rubber rings around the tail lights, and turn signals on the from hood. A bunch of stuff….Nice Job thanks for bringing back good memories

Amazing!!!! I also think if they made this beast into a hybrid of some sort along with the same power it would produce…oh you got yourself a runner. It doesnt differ from the old style with a futuristic vision. Camaro, challenger, and mustang owners would be jealous they didn’t wait!!! I WANT ONE!!!

This is quite nice, but I’d like to see Dodge put the Circuit into production and SOON. That is the nicest looking and best (according to their data) electric car ever designed.

That would be great-I am planning on ordering a 2011 Challenger but I own a Pro-Street ’73 big block RR since 1977 so a 2011 RR would be sweet!!!!!! JHT

As a real MOPAR fan I have to agree with “merk”, this model would play a major part in the recovery of the American auto market. True American muscle can not be beaten, and more so with the retro look!
By DARTGUY on May 31, 2010 | Reply
Front and side views definatly say MOPAR but the rear looks surprisingly like the 2010 camaro! Come on guys!!! Mopars are known for that muscular rear end! Just take a few notes from the 60′s and 70′s muscle car eara! You hit the nail on the head for the front and rear! why chinch on the rear???

This is just what chrysler needs to build to save their corprick asses! This is by farr the best concept car that i’ve seen sence dodge came up with the idea for building the new challenger. If they let this concept car set on the shelf and do nothing with it they diserve to go bankruped!!!!!! Later dudes.
By ray on Sep 16, 2010 | Reply
I believe that chrysler/FIAT focus is bringing chrysler up to being competive in the market. So concept cars might be last on the list of importance. However,Fiat has the capital to make it happen. This would bring some positive light to chrysler. It appears that presently it may be a modern day muscle-car war(ford,G.M.& dodge)going on. How long will it last this time.

Ae you going to make the 2011 Roadrunner. I sure do hope so. I want one in black. I was an owner of the original Roadrunner back in the 60′s. It was green and had a flat black stripe on the hood and roof. I loved that car and I sure would love to drive a new now.
Thanks,
Jerry Stevens

I have a mint 69 roadrunner and i would love to see 2011 roadrunner but looking like the 68 though 70 model. It would increase the value of mine

It is such a great car. My dad would just love it. He already wants a Challenger, but he would change his mind if he saw this! He’d want a 1973 package, because that is what he has. I want one when I’m 16!
By Weasle on Dec 9, 2010 | Reply
I wish that Plymouth would make a comeback. The Cuda I’m sure that would be sweet! Just bring all the good things back, like the Dodge Neon! They are like tiny muscle cars!
By Weasle on Dec 9, 2010 | Reply
They should put nothing smaller than a 318 in these. A 383 would rock, and a Hemi would be wicked! I bet that would fly on the drag strip!
By anthony kain on Dec 12, 2010 | Reply
i still have a 1971 purple 383 auto road runner.i, would buy one in a heart beat.
By davidlantzer on Dec 31, 2010 | Reply

though i am not a big chrysler/dodge fan this is a beautiful car.you guys would be crazy not to put this car on the market.i also agree with easyfix dont fancy it up to much some of us still love the simple things in life.
By aa on Jan 10, 2011 | Reply
If it is simple (no gps, power windows or automatic tranny), good suspension and tons of power and cheaper than the charger, I would buy one for sure.

This is sweet I ahve been a Mopar guy my whole life. I have been eyeballing a new Challenger but now I may have to hold off for a bit I had a 68 Coronet R/T, a 69 Roadrunner, and a 69 Sport Satilite. I now drive a 05 300 but would sell it in a heart beat to get a new Roadrunner. A PLYMOUTH Roadrunner. This is hot looking and yes, it does resemble the 71 to 73 models. I also agree it needs to be made more like the 68 to 70 model years. WOuld also love to see a new Cuda, and what about a tuner version of a Neon or a Duster. No frills, no power anything. The only power these cars need is HEMI POWER.

What is Mopar waiting on,the Charger is not getting it.
By jake roza on Jun 5, 2011 | Reply
the car looks great. now all ya gotta do is make it and with a reasonable price tag
By Chris Peterson on Jun 5, 2011 | Reply
If I made that car it would have about 460 HP!That has got to have hemi and supercharged turbo and stick shift and 6 speed transmission. That car is going to replace the Camaro SS and the GTO!
By Anthony Miller on Jun 5, 2011 | Reply
I agree chris but that car looks better than a zonda!
By John Priebe on Aug 25, 2011 | Reply
i know you all would love a PLYMOUTH roadrunner and it’s a great looking car but Plymouth is no more. I think they shut down in ’01 I have no idea though, but the car would have to be marketed under dodge or Chrysler and Chrysler doesn’t really scream muscle car so dodge it is but dodge already has enough muscle cars with the SRT lineup and the base challengers chargers and vipers so I don’t see this coming along anytime soon unfortunately.
By wilsaigh on Dec 9, 2011 | Reply
From 1967 – 1972 Chrysler produced a wide array of stunningly beautiful, highly durable and equally quick cars. Cars without equal – especially when compared to over styled, over priced euro cars or tacky looking asian cars.
Which is one reason that they demand such high prices at collector car auctions as classic cars.
It would be fantastic if Chrysler could find a way to resurrect the plymouth brand as their specialty car division and bring back the Duster, Road Runner, and Cuda.
Undoubtedly each would be a home run for Chrysler – just like the new Challenger and hopefully Dart.

To me I’m a 45 yr. old gear head and for me this concept is junk…… listen to the old school car guys. Plastic front covers and rear covers does’nt work. How about some chrome there like the old school cars. You might be selling more cars and how about lowering the price huh. These car prices are way out on the edge of the ledge. Just saying…….
