1999 Pontiac GTO Concept

Probably my favorite concept ever, but I’m still not sure, there are so many sweet car concepts out there. It sure is a shame GM never went through with this 1999 Pontiac GTO concept, the car has the sweet angles just like the 2010 Camaro. But, when GM revived the GT0 in 2004 they brought the Holden Monaro’s V platform over from Australia for the GTO. Some where impressed, others very disappointed. I think I was both a little impressed and disappointed when I first saw the 2004 Pontiac GTO in person. I thought it looked sleek and sweet, but thought it didn’t have that American muscle car appeal like the old 1964 Pontiac GTO. That’s probably why the car didn’t last and was discontinued in 2006.
When GM put this concept out on display at the Auto Show, I think a lot of muscle car enthusiasts thought they were going to come out with the actual model just as they did with the Camaro. When I really think about it, if GM would of done this with the GTO concept model as they did with the Camaro concept I think they would of sold a lot more GTOs and the car would of been a hit. GM failed miserably, you see how long it took them to bring back the Camaro. This is one of the reasons why they are borrowing money and claimed Bankruptcy this year. Upper management built cars they wanted to build, not what the American people wanted.
Maybe one day they’ll revive the GTO again, but with more American muscle car appeal like this concept.

I felt the same way, GM should have built this car. I would have waited in line for that GTO. The one they came out with in 2004 ended up looking more like a 2 door Grand Am than a GTO.
