The Italians are also applying the principle of step by step discovery of the new Alfa Romeo Mi.TO in the case of the future Ferrari GT, which can be discovered online, in stages, before the official presentation in Paris 2008.
The most interesting fact is that on the teaser site you can listen in premiere to the engine sound of the future Ferrari. And, in order for the puzzle to be complete, there is also a timer, which practically invites you to wait another ten days to satisfy your curiosity, when you’ll discover something else about the new car.
This will go on until October, but until then, maybe the problem of the presentation language will be fixed: now, whatever you choose, everything is in French. These Italians, why can’t they make everything perfect?
The Mondeo family now has a top of the line model, available with two turbo engines on gas or diesel, reaching 225HP, respectively 175HP.
The new diesel engine, a 2.2 liter TDCi which outputs 35Hp more than it’s little brother the 2.0 liter TDCi, enables a maximum power of 175HP, so the model reaches 100km/h in about 8.4 seconds. The maximum speed is 224 km/h, and the fuel consumption is 6.2 liters/100km. The gas version is more powerful, the 2.5 turbo liter engine outputting 225HP.
The Titanium X Sport is available on hatchback and estate models, being equipped with new 18 inch wheels, two chromed exhaust tips and Alcantara leather interior. The standard version includes voice command, light sensors, parking, automatic air conditioning. Optionally, you can choose a special sports suspension, as well as a bluetooth system, bi-xenon lights and aluminum pedals. Momentarily, the only rival for the new Ford Mondeo Titanium X Sport seems to be the Renault Laguna GT.
It’s true, not so many people have heard about Vauxhall, and even fewer people would give up on a M3 for such a car, but this model would be very welcomed on the Romanian market for example.
The most powerful Vauxhall is equipped with an LS3 engine straight from Corvette, the 6.1 liter V8 engine having a maximum power of 431 HP at 6000 rpm.
For the automatic transmission model, 100 km/h can be reached in only 4.9 seconds, and for the manual version shifting is 0.1-0.2 seconds faster, or even 0.4 seconds faster when you want to go from 80 to 100 mph in the 4th gear. Despite the increased performance, the CO2 emissions and the fuel consumption have remained the same.
Other modifications include the oil radiator for the transmission, the new Heron White color and for the first time on this model, the 20 inch wheels.
With the occasion of Carroll Shelby’s 85th anniversary, Shelby Distribution USA has decided to launch a replica of the GT40 racing model, which was famous back in the 60′s in the Le Mans.
The model will fabricated in a limited edition, being an exact copy of the car that managed to get the top three positions in 1966 in the Le Mans event. The chassy is similar to that used 40 years ago, as well as the interior components, , the only obvious difference being the material which is used for the body, which is electro-galvanized.
The breaking system uses ultralight Willwood discs, with a size of 12.75 inches with four pistons. The 15 inch original wheels come with high performance BF-Goodrich G-Force Drag tyres, with a dimension of 225/50/15 at the front wheels and 275/60/15 at the back. The copies will be equipped with Shelby branded engines, including the Shelby 427FE V8 engine.
After a comparative drivetest made by the engineers from Renault, the new Laguna GT which is equipped with a directing rear axle has proven to have a better maneuverability than a Porsche Boxter S.
The reason for choosing the Porsche Boxter S for this comparative drivetest and not a direct competitor from the middle class is unknown. Still, the advantages of the ActiveDrive system, which also steers the rear wheels, are very impressive. All these not only at high speeds and dangerous situations, but also on tight spaces, and low speeds.
Renault Laguna is only equipped with this system on the GT version, but with the next coupe models, the ActiveDrive will be a standard. The good news is that Renault is going to implement this technology on all its new models, including the Megane 3.
